Today was my first day to go into the office. I really enjoyed it on all fronts. The obligatory orientation on computer software (the tech. lady was exceedingly nice). Lunch with most of the attorneys at the office (a New Mexican take on Mexican food). I had two assignments (no divulgements here). And tomorrow, I get to go on a field trip of sorts.
As a form of respect for my employer, I will keep details to the bare minimum. As this is my personal blog, though, I will keep to some generalities on each day that I post on. I really am excited to see how things pan out, and I hope that my readership follows along and shares with me as I go into some detail about life here.
A few observations and thoughts at first:
This town appears to be more country than I anticipated (perhaps this will be developed in future posts). I never thought that I’d see alien murals on the side of a Wal-Mart–really hope to take a picture of that one. I plan to visit at least one museum not of the fine art variety. I will make at least one weekend/day trip up to the mountains, which are only about a 1:30 drive away. I did not expect a Starbucks, or a Whataburger, or a Dairy Queen. All of those are here. Also, I believe New Mexico liquor laws are more stringent than Texas ones. On Sunday, you cannot buy beer or wine period. Not only are the liquor stores closed, grocery stores close the aisles where beer and wine are on Sundays. How Puritanical is that?
I will probably have to open a checking account with Bank of America or Wells Fargo, since my bank is not present here. It does have branches throughout the state–just not here. More posts to come.

In Alaska, the bars are open until 4:30am and the liquor stores until 5am. How’s that for puritanical?

So, I guess when they run out of communion wine on Sundays in NM they just have to get all Baptist? I hope the store gets an extra shipment of grape juice on the weekends. Or maybe they just ask Jesus to show up and change some water over–though that seems a bit charismatic of a solution. Please find a priest of sorts to ask. I am a bit concerned about this dilemma.
